pictogram

A pictogram is a format used to represent statistical information.

Pictures or symbols are used to represent the value of data. A key must be included to explain what the picture or symbol represents.

For example, a bread shop keeps a record of how many loaves of bread are bought, from Monday to Friday, in the form of a pictogram. A circle is used to represent 20 loaves of bread. Therefore, a semicircle represents 10 loaves of bread and a quarter circle represents 5 loaves of bread. The table shows the results.

We can see that 40 loaves were sold on Monday, 30 loaves on Tuesday, 60 loaves on Wednesday, 45 loaves on Thursday and 100 loaves on Friday.

Another name for pictogram is pictograph.
