parallelogram

A parallelogram is an irregular quadrilateral with four vertices and four sides. Its opposite sides are equal and parallel. Not all sides are of equal length. If all sides were equal, the parallelogram would be a rhombus.

The opposite angles of a parallelogram are equal. A parallelogram has no lines of symmetry.

The formula for the area of a parallelogram is:

    Area = Base × Height

          A = b × h

The base b represents the length of one of the parallelogram’s sides and the height h represents the perpendicular height between the base and the opposite side.
