International Date Line

The International Date Line is an imaginary line from the north pole to the south pole. Its purpose is to show when a day changes from one to the next.

It passes through the Pacific Ocean, and deviates to avoid crossing different countries and islands.

When travelling towards the West through the International Date Line, you must add 24 hours to the clock. This means moving forwards one whole day.

When travelling towards the East through the International Date Line, you must subtract 24 hours from the clock. This means moving back one whole day.
