Venn diagram

If there is a connection between two things, there is a relationship between them.

One way of showing this relationship clearly is by using a Venn diagram.

Look at this example.

Emma wants to know which sports her friends play.

Here are the results:

    Nadia, Haf, Rhian and Bethan play hockey.
    Nia, Susan, Haf, Nushin and Rhian play netball.

We can place their names in two separate circles, but by combining them in a Venn diagram and putting the names of the girls who play both sports in the middle section, we can see who plays hockey and netball.

A Venn diagram is named after the logician John Venn.
