statistics

This is the term for a collection of data/information of a quantitative nature representing measurements or facts.

Statistics are shown on ready meal packaging. The different groups of nutrients in the food – carbohydrates, proteins, fats and so – are shown as proportions on the packet.

When statistics refer to data resulting from counting things, for example the number of students in a class, the data is discrete.

When statistics refer to data taken from measurements, for example capacity or length, the data is continuous.
