decimal number

Decimal refers to a counting system based on the number 10.

A decimal number contains a decimal point. The decimal point is placed to the right of the units column, and every column after the decimal point contains a fractional part which is known as a decimal place (tenth, hundredth, thousandth and so on).

For example, 56.4 is a decimal number. It has 5 tens, 6 units and 4 tenths.
