decimal point

Sign: .

This is the term for the point or dot used to separate a whole number from a decimal.

The decimal point is placed to the right of the Units column, and every column after the decimal point includes a fractional part known as decimal place (tenth, hundredth, thousandth and so on).

For example, in the number 32.5 the decimal point separates the 32 (whole number) from the 5 (decimal).
