This is the term used for putting a number instead of a variable in an algebraic expression.

For example, if we substitute the number 2 for the variable y in the algebraic expression 6y – 2, we can calculate the value of the algebraic expression as follows:

    6y – 2
    6 × 2 – 2
= 12 – 2
= 10
