A compass is a piece of equipment used to draw a circle with a specific radius. It can also be used to draw an arc.

The compass’ pin is used to mark the centre of the circle. We usually put a pencil in the other side of the compass to draw the circle.

It is possible to use a compass and a ruler to halve an angle or to draw the following:

• specific angles, for example 30°

• a triangle to scale

• a perpendicular bisector.
