arithmetic sequence

A sequence of numbers where a constant number is added or subtracted in order to get the next number is known as an arithmetic sequence.

Here’s an example of adding a constant number:

     3, 11, 19, 27, 35, 43, …

There’s a difference of 8 between each number.

The following is an example of subtracting a constant number:

     4, –1, –6, –11, –16, –21, …

There’s a difference of 5 between each number.
