Introduction

Mathematics: glossary of terms is a comprehensive resource containing corresponding English and Welsh terms. Its target audience is Key Stage 3 and 4 learners, and it has been specifically designed for use on a computer or iPad. It is completely bilingual and has the facility to switch easily from English to Welsh, and vice versa. The resource is intended to serve as a point of reference for learners seeking further information about mathematical terms. The content is explained in a clear and simplistic manner with colourful pictures and animations to support the definitions.

There are two ways of searching for a term:

  • • type the term in the search box on the resource’s home page, in the language of your choice
  • • use the alphabet at the bottom of the screen. For example, clicking on the letter A on the English side of the resource leads to a list, in alphabetical order, of the terms which start with that letter.

Having found the term and read its definition, you’ll see that some words have been underlined and appear in blue font. For example, ‘time’, ‘equal’, ‘seconds’, ‘hour’, ‘divided’, ‘factors’, ‘numbers’ and ‘lowest’ in the definition of ‘minute’. Clicking on each term leads to a definition, and clicking on ‘Cymraeg’ in the top right corner leads to the corresponding Welsh term. Clicking on a picture or animation magnifies its size for clarity purposes.

This resource has been part funded by Welsh Government with support from WJEC Teaching and Learning Resources Scheme, and the authors are two experienced teachers of Mathematics.
